Tech Provider Access Verification Pending? Meta Has Retired It (2026)
Tech Provider Access Verification stuck on pending for weeks? Meta retired it on Oct 9, 2026. What changed, what still applies, and what to do next.

If your Tech Provider Access Verification has been sitting on "pending" for one or two months, there's a simple reason nobody at Meta is reviewing it: Meta has retired the step. In a Meta for Developers blog post dated October 9, 2026, Meta confirmed that Access Verification is no longer part of Tech Provider onboarding. You no longer submit the form, and you no longer wait on its outcome before going live.
I take businesses through Meta App Review and Tech Provider onboarding every week at Mojo Web Technology, with 200+ Meta apps approved so far. Since early October, most of the "why is my verification stuck?" messages I get trace back to this one change. It was published on Meta's developer blog, and many teams simply haven't seen it, so they're still waiting on a review that no longer exists.
Last updated October 30, 2026. Policy facts in this article come from Meta's official announcement, "Retiring Access Verification for Tech Provider Apps" (October 9, 2026), linked above so you can verify them. Anything based on my own client work is labeled as my experience.
Is Tech Provider Access Verification Still Required in 2026?
No. Meta has removed Access Verification from the Tech Provider onboarding flow. According to the announcement, the Access Verification form, its prerequisites and its status field are being removed from the App Dashboard, and API endpoints that used to reject calls from businesses without a passing Access Verification status will stop running that check.
Meta's reasoning: when it introduced Access Verification in 2022, it was the main way to confirm a business genuinely operated as a Tech Provider. Business Verification and App Review have matured since then, and Meta says newer, more sophisticated signals now cover what Access Verification used to check.
Why Does My Access Verification Still Show "Pending"?
Because the review it belonged to is being shut down. Meta's post doesn't spell out what happens to submissions that were already in the queue, but with the requirement gone and the API check switched off, there is no Access Verification decision you need before going live. Your dashboard may keep showing the old status until Meta finishes removing the field. From what I'm seeing with clients, a status that hasn't moved for weeks reflects this change, not a problem with your business.
What Meta Changed for Tech Providers
- No Access Verification form. The submission, its prerequisites and its status field are being removed from the App Dashboard.
- No Access Verification check on API calls. Clients can use your app without your business holding a passing Access Verification status.
- Direct Integrator is now the default. Adding an app to a business no longer changes its business use. An app becomes a Tech Provider app only when you explicitly upgrade it, or when it requests advanced permissions that call for it.
What Still Applies (Don't Skip These)
Removing one gate doesn't remove the others. Meta was explicit that these stay exactly as they were:
- Business Verification is still required before your app can access data owned by other businesses.
- App Review is still required for advanced permissions such as whatsapp_business_management, instagram_business_basic, business_management and pages_read_engagement, and the review standards haven't changed.
- Data handling obligations are unchanged: Platform Terms, Developer Policies, Data Use Checkup, the Data Handling Questionnaire and Data Protection Assessment all still apply.
Meta also notes it may add new requirements for Tech Providers in the future. Treat this as a simpler onboarding path, not a change in what you're allowed to do with client data.
What to Do If Your Access Verification Is Stuck
- Stop waiting on it. Don't resubmit or chase support for an Access Verification decision.
- Confirm Business Verification is complete for the business portfolio that owns your app, with no restrictions on the account.
- Check Advanced Access for every permission your clients will grant, through App Review.
- Check your app's business use. If you serve other businesses, make sure the app is upgraded to Tech Provider rather than left on the Direct Integrator default.
- Test with a real client account (someone without a role on your app) to confirm the API calls go through.
If calls still fail after these checks, the cause is elsewhere. In my experience it's usually a permission without Advanced Access or an incomplete Business Verification.
How Long Does It Take to Become a Meta Tech Provider Now?
With Access Verification gone, your timeline is Business Verification plus App Review. Meta's old estimate of about five business days for an Access Verification decision no longer applies. App Review is now the step that decides when you go live: Meta's dashboard estimates around 20 days, and across the 15+ approvals my team handles each month, reviews are currently coming back in about 14 days. A clean first submission matters more than ever, because every App Review rejection restarts that clock.

Frequently Asked Questions
Has Meta removed Tech Provider Access Verification?
Yes. On October 9, 2026, Meta announced that Access Verification is no longer required in the Tech Provider onboarding flow. The form and its status field are being removed from the App Dashboard, and API calls no longer check for it.
Why is my Tech Provider Access Verification still pending?
Because Meta has retired the step. There is no longer an Access Verification decision you need before going live, so a status stuck for weeks isn't a problem with your business. Focus on Business Verification and App Review instead.
When will my Tech Provider Access Verification be approved?
You don't need to wait for it. Meta no longer requires Access Verification, and endpoints that used to reject calls without a passing status no longer perform that check.
How long does it take to become a Meta Tech Provider now?
It depends on Business Verification and App Review. Meta's dashboard estimates about 20 days for App Review; in my recent client work, reviews have been taking around 14 days.
Is Business Verification still required for Tech Providers?
Yes. Meta confirmed Business Verification is still required before your app can access data owned by other businesses.
Do I still need App Review for advanced permissions?
Yes. App Review is still required for advanced permissions, and Meta says the review standards are unchanged.
What is the difference between Direct Integrator and Tech Provider?
Direct Integrator is now the default business use for an app. An app becomes a Tech Provider app when you explicitly upgrade it or when it requests advanced permissions that require it, typically because it accesses data owned by your clients.
Do I need Access Verification for WhatsApp Embedded Signup?
No, not anymore. You still need Business Verification and Advanced Access for whatsapp_business_management through App Review to onboard clients via Embedded Signup.
